Consultation hours National Ombudsman
On November 13, 14, 15, and 16, the National Ombudsman was back on Bonaire. For the third time this year, I was asked to help organize these consultation hours. What does this involve exactly? I make sure the snacks are ordered and picked up, and that the drinks and all the necessary items such as cups, napkins, coffee, tea, etc., are purchased.
In the week leading up to the office hours, I put up over 20 posters at various locations on Bonaire, in both Dutch and Papiamentu, to inform the residents.
On the days themselves, I start in the morning by picking up freshly made local pastechi’s (snacks) and a warming tray. Then I drive to the location to set everything up in an inviting way: coffee, tea, juices, and water. I dress the table with a nice tablecloth and other decorations. I also check the spaces where the National Ombudsman will be sitting, turn on the lights, and make sure the air conditioning is working.
When the consultation hours begin, I welcome the visitors, offer them food and drinks, and keep track of the order of the visitors. I let them know who can go in and when. Throughout the day, I also regularly check with the National Ombudsman to see if she needs anything.
It was another four valuable and enjoyable days in which I was able to contribute to the work of the National Ombudsman on Bonaire!
